Visit our Scottish Sister Estates

Did you know that Buccleuch has several sister estates just north of the border?

Spread across some of Scotland’s most beautiful landscapes, each offers its own unique experience.

If you’re planning a trip north, you might just find yourself tempted to explore more than one.

Dalkeith Palace & Country Park

Dalkeith, Edinburgh

Offering 1000 acres to explore, Dalkeith provides rich history and scenic walks to wellness, shopping, food, and adventure.

Dalkeith Palace offers an exciting programme of exhibitions and events, providing the opportunity to step inside one of the grandest early classical houses and experience it for yourself.

Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate

Thornhill, Dumfries & Galloway

The iconic ‘Pink Palace’ sits proudly amid the stunning landscapes of southern Scotland.

Striking architecture and natural beauty, Drumlanrig offers a warm welcome to visitors seeking history, adventure and the great outdoors. The Castle itself opens seasonally for Guided Tours.

Bowhill House & Grounds

Selkirk, Scottish Borders

Bowhill enjoys a secluded and truly enchanting setting.

Seasonal opening invites visitors to immerse themselves in the great outdoors, with expansive grounds to explore – from tranquil lochs to ancient woodlands. House tours are also available daily throughout August.

Dalkeith Palace & Country Park

Planning a trip to Scotland’s capital? Dalkeith Country Park is just a 30-minute drive from Edinburgh city centre, with public transport links taking under an hour.

Perfect for an adventurous day out, the park is home to scenic walking trails, the much-loved Fort Douglas Adventure Playground, and Go Ape Dalkeith for those seeking an extra thrill among the trees.

If a more relaxed visit is on the agenda, Restoration Yard forms the heart of the Courtyard area, offering stylish shopping, inviting dining spots, and wellness studios designed for a slower pace.

The Palace itself opens sporadically for exhibitions while the Park can be enjoyed all year round, whatever the season.

During the summer months, visitors can also extend their stay at the Park’s campsite, offering a unique way to experience Dalkeith Country Park surrounded by nature.

Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate

A truly mesmerising destination, Drumlanrig is an iconic part of the Dumfries & Galloway landscape. From the moment you arrive, sweeping parkland dotted with grazing sheep and the grand, tree-lined avenue set the scene.

There’s plenty to discover during your visit, from seasonal Castle Tours and beautiful Gardens to the Adventure Playground and Café. The wider Estate also offers an authentic taste of rural Scottish life, with experiences including fishing, simulated game shooting, e-bike hire and clay pigeon shooting.

For a great Scottish escape, Drumlanrig is home to a collection of self-catering holiday properties set within the Estate itself – the perfect base for exploring the south of Scotland and embracing the countryside at your own pace.

Bowhill House & Grounds

Bowhill is a hidden haven in the heart of the Scottish Borders, where winding glens and enchanting woodland surround the Buccleuch family’s country home. During the summer months, visitors are invited to explore the Grounds, enjoy peaceful walks, discover the children’s Adventure Playground, and relax in the café.

For those drawn to history, heritage, and the arts, there is plenty to uncover. The Courtyard Gallery regularly showcases work from local artists, the Victorian Kitchen offers a fascinating glimpse into life below stairs, and seasonal House Tours provide the chance to step inside this remarkable stately home and discover its stories firsthand.

Plan your Visit

If you enjoy visiting Boughton House and Gardens, our Scottish sister estates are well worth the journey to experience in person. We recommend planning ahead and checking opening times and attractions before you travel, so you can make the most of your visit.

For those planning a trip, both Drumlanrig and Bowhill offer self-catering accommodation, while Dalkeith Country Park is ideally located close to Edinburgh, with a wide range of nearby places to stay.

Can I visit all the Estates in one trip?

Absolutely – and we’d highly recommend it. Each of our Scottish sister estates offers something unique to discover, from historic Houses and Gardens to countryside walks and family adventures.

As the estates are located across different counties and around 1–2 hours apart, we do recommend planning your route in advance to make the most of your visit. To fully experience everything each estate has to offer, we’d suggest allowing at least a day at each destination.
